Our provider status, described precisely.

Provider status is routinely overstated in this industry. Here is exactly what ours is, what it is not, and how to check it without trusting us.

Solar Canada is a NABCEP Registered Provider, number PVARTP-0877, for the Photovoltaic Associate programme, and an examination provider authorised to administer the sitting. Based in Newmarket, Ontario. Courses run online and are open worldwide.

What the registration actually is

An authorisation to teach, and to administer examinations properly. It means NABCEP has reviewed our training against its requirements and lists us in its own public provider directory, and that we are authorised to run a sitting with the right proctoring and chain of custody.

That is the whole of it. It buys a candidate a properly run seat. It does not buy an advantage in the seat, and any provider implying otherwise is misrepresenting what the status is.

What it is not

  • Not an accredited certification body. We do not issue certifications. NABCEP does, on examinations it writes, delivers and scores. The difference between a trainer, an exam centre and a certification body →
  • Not an endorsement of us by NABCEP beyond the registration itself. NABCEP is not affiliated with us otherwise and does not endorse our commercial claims.
  • Not influence over who passes. We cannot affect a result, see a result before the candidate does, or advocate for a candidate.
  • Not a Canadian licence. Provincial trade certification and electrical safety authorities govern the work itself, and no NABCEP credential replaces them. Where NABCEP fits in Canada →

How to verify it without trusting us

Look us up in NABCEP's provider directory. That listing is maintained by NABCEP, not by us, and it is the right way to check any provider's claim — including ours, and including the claims of anyone else you are considering. If a provider's status cannot be found there, ask them why before you pay them.

The marks, and how we use them

NABCEP and the NABCEP certification marks are the property of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners, Inc. We use the Registered Provider seal under licence, accompanied by our name and provider number as NABCEP's mark-use policy requires. We do not use NABCEP's photography, conference artwork or marketing material, because a mark licence does not carry the rest of a body's creative work, and lifting it is exactly the kind of thing that costs a provider its registration.

Where we sit in a wider group

Solar Canada sits within a wider group of Canadian energy businesses. Its training and examination operations are run on their own terms, and examination administration is not influenced by any other part of that group. We put that in writing because the question is a fair one to ask of any examination centre with commercial siblings.

What we are honest about being short of

Everything runs online today; in-person classes are arranged by region on request. Our published course calendar is thinner than we would like. And the site has no photographs of real classes, because the alternative was stock photography and we would rather show you drawings than imply something that is not ours. How we teach →

Common questions

Are you accredited?

We are a NABCEP Registered Provider, number PVARTP-0877. That is an authorisation to teach and to administer examinations, not accreditation as a certification body, and we do not describe ourselves as one.

Does NABCEP endorse you?

No further than the registration itself. NABCEP is not otherwise affiliated with us and does not endorse our commercial claims.

Do you decide who passes?

No. NABCEP writes, delivers and scores its examinations. We cannot affect a result or see one before the candidate.

How do I check a provider's status?

NABCEP's own provider directory. If a provider is not listed there, ask why before paying.
